Generating electricity 35 metres below the sea
Tidal energy is renewable, abundant and above all, predictable. Using it to generate electricity has been turned into reality by EDF and its partners off the coast off Paimpol-Bréhat. After a long series of mechanical and electrical tests carried out on a demonstrator, two tidal turbines were built, installed 35 metres below the sea and connected to the electricity grid. Reversible, they operate on both the ingoing and outgoing tides.
