We are building the new nuclear
EDF is expanding its range of nuclear reactors of various sizes to meet the specific needs of countries and electricity networks around the world. In France, with the French nuclear fleet, EDF has launched a new program to build next‑generation reactors. In conjunction with renewable energies, this programme aims to secure France’s electricity supply and help achieve carbon neutrality.
The EPR
Designed to be even safer and even more environmentally friendly than previous reactors, the EPR captures all the recent advances in nuclear safety, reduced environmental impact and technical performance.
The EPR2 Program
The EPR2 program is a major pillar of EDF’s strategy to ensure, over the long term, a low‑carbon, safe, and competitive electricity supply.
It involves the construction of three pairs of next‑generation nuclear reactors, designed to enhance industrial performance, ensure a high level of safety, and reduce costs through increased standardization, while building on the industry’s existing operational experience.
The EPR2 program will strengthen France’s energy and industrial sovereignty and support its energy transition for decades to come.
An SMR solution to build a carbon free world
The EDF Group stands fully committed to developing a Generation 3+ SMR plant to meet the growing needs of electric utilities and energy-intensive industries, for generation of carbon-free electricity, steam, and hydrogen, in Europe and worldwide.
NUWARD, a 100% subsidiary of the EDF Group, is in charge of the development of this SMR plant.
