EDF Power Networks Lab - Internal Arc Test News
By the end of 2019 we performed an internal arc withstand test on a 420 kV cable termination for the European cable manufacturer NKT,
accessories and cables provider.
The internal arc withstand test underwent the following constraints :
- Build up a 4m high equipment on a 3,5 m high frame in a mounting hall
- Carry the 7,5 m high structure to the testing area with a low-loader truck
- Coordinate teams from several countries : German, Belgian, French, Greek and Swedish people
- Apply a RMS current of 50 kA for 600 ms
This test is a success for the manufacturer, as the equipment correctly reacted to the explosion related to the internal fault. We are pleased to have been part of this achievement.
