Individual self-consumption to reduce your energy budget

Thanks to technological advances and the support schemes in place, producing and consuming your own electricity has never been so accessible. Individual self-consumption is an effective way to reduce your energy bill—whether you’re a household, a business or a local authority.

With ever more efficient equipment and a growing desire to consume energy more wisely, individual self-consumption is part of a forward-looking trend in which every consumer can also become a producer. Find out how you can benefit today.

Solar self-consumption: how does it work?

Photovoltaic panels installed on a roof, a solar carport or on the ground convert solar energy into electricity to directly power your installations:

  • The electricity produced is used in real time: 30% on average and up to 80% of needs covered depending on whether you’re a private individual, a professional or an industrial customer[1].
  • Any surplus can be fed into the grid or stored via a hot water tank or a battery for later use.

If additional power is needed, the electricity grid steps in to ensure a continuous supply.

Thanks to this smart management, you maximise self-consumption while maintaining a stable supply.

3 good reasons to go solar with the EDF group

  • Reduce your energy bills

Save between 20% and 80%[2] on your energy budget

  • Increase your property value

A solar installation improves the energy performance of your home or building

  • Contribute to the energy transition

    Choose local, low-carbon energy

What support is available to finance your solar panel installation?

Solar self-consumption benefits from financial solutions. There are several government incentives to reduce the cost of a solar installation. For example, for a private individual, the most attractive option is generally self-consumption with sale of surplus power. In that case, you can benefit from:

  • The self-consumption bonus, depending on the capacity of the installation.
  • Reduced VAT at 5.5% on the purchase and installation of equipment (for installations up to 3 kVA).
  • the power purchase agreement at a rate set by law: electricity produced but not consumed is sold to EDF Obligation d'Achat.

Steps to switch to self-consumption

A commitment at every stage of your solar panel installation project with EDF Solutions Solaires.

  • Step
    1

    Feasibility study

Analysis of your consumption and solar potential for your site: a free, no-obligation solar assessment carried out by an advisor to size your installation as accurately as possible.

  • Step
    2

    Equipment selection

Choosing photovoltaic panels, system capacity and storage options: our experts guide you towards the best solutions for your project.

  • Step
    3

    Administrative procedures

EDF supports you in obtaining available financial aid and handles the authorisations and formalities required for your installation.

  • Step
    4

    Installation and grid connection

Panels are installed by certified technicians with rigorous monitoring to ensure a reliable, high-performance system. Equipment may include a product warranty of up to 25 years depending on the model—for total peace of mind.

  • Step
    5

    Monitoring and optimisation

Track your production at any time and maximise self-consumption with an energy management system and/or a storage solution tailored to your installation.

Did you know? Once your project is approved, the work is completed in just a few days. On average, three months are enough between the feasibility study and commissioning your installation.
