From Vasque of Paris 2024™ Olympic™ and Paralympic™ Games™ to the peaks of the Alps
At the Paris 2024 Games, the Vasque (cauldron) rose – without fuel – carried by water and light: a symbol of a more sustainable and resolutely low-carbon sporting celebration. The Alps 2030 continues and builds on this approach, in one of France’s most visited regions and one of those most vulnerable to climate change. It is there, at the very heart of these challenges, that we want to take concrete action, alongside the region and its residents.
At the heart of the Alps for decades
The Alps hold a central place in EDF's history. Our hydroelectric dams, nuclear power stations, wind and solar farms, together with our teams, have been established there for several generations and contribute every day to the life and economic vitality of the valleys.
It is this local presence that makes all the difference. We know the region well: we work here, and we know how to provide practical industrial solutions, particularly in the fields of hydroelectricity and water resource management, drawing on our expertise to address the challenges facing mountain environments.
Low-carbon electricity to power the 2030 Alpine Winter Games
Our commitment is clear: to provide these Games with competitive, sovereign and low-carbon electricity, worthy of a world-class event.
Being the official low-carbon electricity supplier for the Alps 2030 Winter Games means demonstrating that a competition of this scale can be held whilst being 100% connected to the electricity grid. It also reaffirms our role as a committed player in the energy transition.
Making the 2030 Alpine Winter Games a driving force behind the electrification of France and its mountain ranges
Building on our commitment to the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games and subsequently the Paris 2024 Games, we aim to make the 2030 Alpine Winter Games a practical demonstration of solutions to accelerate the electrification and decarbonisation of mountain regions.
We will harness our expertise to support the Olympic and Paralympic Games and the regions, focusing on a number of priorities:
- to provide competitive, self-sufficient and low-carbon electricity;
- to support the electrification of transport, particularly to and within mountain resorts;
- to improve the energy efficiency of sports and tourism infrastructure, as well as the Olympic and Paralympic villages;
- to promote our innovations in the fields of hydropower, water management, energy efficiency and energy services.
Through our subsidiaries and areas of expertise – notably our hydropower operations, IZIVIA, EDF Business Services and Hydrostadium - we aim to make the Alps a region of energy innovation that benefits residents, local authorities and visitors alike.

The Alps play a central role in EDF’s history, thanks to our hydroelectric dams. By becoming the lead partner of the Alps 2030 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games, we aim to put all our expertise at the service of a shared ambition: to make these Winter Games a catalyst for the energy transition in mountain regions.
