EDF and Safran: continuing a successful partnership
EDF and Safran have been partners since 2018 and have already carried out several joint projects. These include analysing airport infrastructure requirements for aircraft and ground equipment electrification, assessing future battery technologies, and addressing the stability and power quality of DC grids. In January 2023, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) formalised their joint research on e-fuels (synthetic fuels), a key issue in aviation decarbonisation, as well as on CO2 capture and utilisation.
More broadly, EDF and Safran regularly collaborate through organisations such as CERFACS (European Centre for Research and Advanced Training in Scientific Computing) on high-performance computing, and through applied research projects with the SystemX Technological Research Institute. Both partners are committed to regularly sharing their expertise to continuously enhance their innovation capabilities and working methods.
