As many regions across France experience successive heatwaves, EDF is strengthening its commitment to the French public by mobilizing €80 million to help schools, daycare centers, and leisure centers install cooling solutions.
In response to increasingly frequent and intense heatwaves, EDF aims to contribute to adapting buildings to new climate realities. To this end, EDF is allocating €80 million to a support fund to accelerate the installation of cooling equipment in daycare centers, primary schools, middle schools, high schools, and municipal leisure centers.
This program, implemented through the association “Je passe à l’électrique” (“I’m Switching to Electric”), will finance both rapidly deployable equipment and long-term solutions designed to sustainably improve thermal comfort in buildings. It includes:
- Until September 30, 2026: EDF will provide a flat-rate grant of €400 per unit for the installation of fans, misting systems, portable air conditioners, and fixed air conditioners in buildings, up to 10 units per establishment, within a total budget of €40 million. This measure will support more than 10,000 establishments and help finance over 100,000 pieces of equipment.
- Until June 30, 2027: EDF will provide a flat-rate grant of €10,000 per establishment to help fund cooling projects. This support complements the Edurénov program run by the Banque des Territoires. It will support projects in 4,000 establishments involving the installation of reversible air-to-air heat pumps, for a total amount of €40 million.
Applications for financial assistance can be submitted starting today on the website jepassealelectrique.fr.
In addition, the EDF Group has launched initiatives through its subsidiaries Dalkia and IZI by EDF to help adapt buildings to new climate realities and meet the growing thermal comfort needs of the French population. These initiatives support local authorities and individuals in energy renovation, insulation, and the deployment of more sustainable heating and cooling solutions.
According to Bernard Fontana, Chairman and CEO of EDF Group:
“For 80 years, EDF has been at the heart of French daily life by providing competitive, sovereign, and low-carbon electricity. Today, as heatwaves affect our country, we wanted to take concrete action by helping schools, daycare centers, and leisure centers equip themselves with both rapidly available cooling solutions and long-term improvements. This initiative fully reflects our ambition: to use electrification to deliver practical solutions that improve quality of life, reduce our dependence on fossil fuels, and strengthen France’s energy sovereignty. Choosing EDF also means choosing a company that supports the French people in their daily lives, especially the youngest among them.”
