EDF is providing its low-carbon electricity and electrification solutions to support the Alpes 2030 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games, helping to deliver more responsible and sustainable Games while accelerating the transformations already underway in mountain regions. As the first founding partner of the Alpes 2030 Olympic and Paralympic Games Organising Committee, EDF is supporting a shared ambition: to make the Games a catalyst for innovation and the energy transition, benefiting local communities and future generations.
Making the Alpes 2030 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games a catalyst for France’s electrification and that of its mountain regions
Building on its commitment during the London 2012 and Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games, EDF aims to make the Alpes 2030 Winter Games a concrete showcase of solutions that can accelerate the electrification and decarbonization of mountain regions.
These Winter Games will take place in regions that are of strategic importance to EDF: several tens of thousands of the Group’s employees work in Alpine valleys, particularly in low-carbon electricity generation facilities (hydropower dams, nuclear power plants, wind farms, and solar parks).
The Group will mobilize its expertise to support local authorities around several priorities:
• Providing competitive, sovereign, low-carbon electricity;
• Supporting the electrification of mobility, particularly to and within mountain resorts;
• Improving the energy performance of sports, tourism, and Olympic village infrastructure;
• Showcasing the Group’s innovations in hydropower, water management, energy efficiency, and energy services.
Through its subsidiaries and areas of expertise—particularly its hydropower operations, IZIVIA, EDF business services and Hydrostadium — the Group aims to make the Alps a hub for energy innovation serving residents, local authorities, and visitors.
EDF: committed to French sport for 35 years
A major player in the world of sport, EDF has supported French sport for 35 years, helping address environmental and societal challenges. The Group promotes the values of sustainable responsibility, sharing, diversity, gender balance, and inclusion by supporting four French federations: canoe-kayak, parasport, swimming, and football, as well as the Team EDF, a collective of athletes that embodies this spirit of excellence at the highest level.
“The Alps occupy a central place in EDF’s history, notably through the presence of our hydropower dams. By becoming the first partner of the Alpes 2030 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games, we want to bring all our expertise to a shared ambition: making these Games a catalyst for the energy transition of mountain regions,” said Bernard Fontana, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of EDF.
“EDF’s commitment alongside us is a strong signal. Together, we share the ambition of demonstrating that the Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games can be environmentally responsible and committed, while leaving a tangible legacy for Alpine communities,” said Edgar Grospiron, President of the Alpes 2030 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games Organising Committee.
