Generating more low-carbon electricity in a demanding environment
EDF Hydro Alpes is a cornerstone of EDF Group’s renewable power generation in the Northern Alps. The entity operates and maintains a substantial fleet of 65 major dams and 104 power plants, organised across several operational units and specialist maintenance teams.
In a highly demanding industrial setting, specialist mechanical maintenance teams must intervene swiftly while maintaining the highest standards of safety and quality. The objective is clear: to save time and boost performance in order to generate ever more carbon-free electricity.
However, traditional practices based on complex paper-based documentation were reaching their limits: limited real-time visibility, repeated data entry, time lost searching for information, and less-than-optimal communication between field teams and planning staff.
Siteflow: a practical driver of operational performance
To address these challenges, EDF Hydro Alpes’ maintenance teams have rolled out the solution developed by Siteflow, a French startup specialising in the digitalisation of field operations. Its SaaS platform structures and tracks interventions through two complementary interfaces: a preparation tool for office-based teams and a field application accessible on tablets, even offline.
This end-to-end digital continuity is fundamentally reshaping working practices. Procedures are designed upstream and then executed directly in the field, with real-time data capture. The result: no more duplicate data entry, instant access to information, and smoother operational oversight.
The benefits are both substantial and measurable. EDF Hydro Alpes has reported up to an 80% reduction in preparation time for interventions that have already been carried out once. Maintenance files can now be prepared in just minutes, are easily reusable, and field data is instantly available to operational teams.
On site, the quality of interventions is enhanced, while traceability of deviations makes it possible to anticipate issues and ensure a high level of compliance, particularly for critical activities related to hydraulic safety.
These improvements also enhance working conditions for teams and boost overall efficiency. Over the course of a year, the time saved equates to several weeks of workload reduction for certain roles, while strengthening operational control.
A success story echoed across the Group through other use cases
The success of this initiative forms part of a broader momentum across the Group. The Siteflow solution is now deployed across several business units, bringing together nearly 2,000 users, and is contributing more widely to the digital transformation of the Group’s industrial operations.
Also adopted by major industrial players in France and internationally, the platform is experiencing strong growth, confirming its relevance in complex environments. Across the board, the benefits are clear: improved quality of interventions, fewer non-conformities, real-time access to data, and greater efficiency.
This rollout highlights the role of EDF Pulse Ventures, the Group’s corporate venture arm. By investing in innovative startups such as Siteflow, EDF Pulse Ventures aims to generate tangible synergies with the Group’s business units through mutually beneficial partnerships.
