Data: the crux of the matter
Climate models generate colossal volumes of data that has to be organised and standardised so that it can be exploited by the Group’s businesses. EDF created its Climate Service in 2014 specifically for that purpose. The service is tasked with updating studies on the changes in climate parameters – precipitation, wind, temperature, etc. – and building standardised terms of reference for regional climate projections to enable precise and detailed analysis at more local levels. Serving the Group’s businesses
Performed upstream, this work on data enables the Group’s businesses to make the best strategic and organisational decisions. In particular, they can focus on changes in local power demand and the constraints that climate uncertainty places on generation facilities.
