EDF: a limited company
EDF is a limited company (société anonyme) governed by a Board of Directors. Its Chairman and Chief Executive Officer is appointed by decree of the President of the Republic upon recommendation of the Board of Directors.
Originally established under the law n° 46-628 of 8 April 1946, EDF operated as a public industrial and commercial establishment (EPIC) before being transformed into a publicly traded company by the law of 9 August 2004, and the implementing decree of 17 November 2004.
From 21 November 2005 to 8 June 2023, EDF was listed on the Euronext Paris stock exchange. Following a simplified public tender offer initiated by the French state, the state now holds the entirety of EDF's share capital and voting rights.
