It looks like a box on wheels, equipped with two high handles and intelligent sensors to move itself around, like an autonomous vehicle. This logistics droid, known as TwinswHeel, has accepted its mission: to assist workers and technicians on industrial sites by carrying heavy loads. Robust and flexible, it is capable of identifying its route and reconfiguring itself in the event of an obstacle or change.
By working closely with people and allowing them to focus on high value-added tasks, TwinswHeel has become a true "cobot", a collaborative robot. Combining well-being and competitiveness, this product is bound to play a significant role in the future of urban logistics!
TwinswHeel was born from the meeting of the company Soben in Cahors (specialised in innovative shock absorbers, mechanics, power transmission and batteries) and the startup Andarta Robotics in Lyon (an expert in robotics and artificial intelligence).
4 questions to TwinswHeel
Where did you get the idea for this startup?
For more than 15 years, we have been working for industry, the automotive and aeronautics sectors, the military, etc. We develop mechatronic objects for major customers and have picked up on a need for small robots to assist technicians and workers in order to relieve them of repetitive and arduous tasks. This is why we designed the TwinswHeel logistics droids that carry heavy loads instead of humans, allowing people to focus on higher value-added tasks. As such, our factories in France are more competitive and we are contributing to the reindustrialisation of our country.
Any recent good news?
We are pleased to announce that the TwinswHeel family of logistics droids is expanding with the delivery to our customers of the first versions of the range of heavy droids capable of carrying up to 150 kg (the light droids carry up to 40 kg) and towing a trailer of up to 500 kg. These droids are for logistics in factories and warehouses, where they assist personnel either in “follow-me” mode or autonomous mode. We are aiming for a big family of products, with a number of other droid ranges in the pipeline...
What is the most unexpected thing that your startup has made you do?
All the travelling that we do! Our TwinswHeel logistics droids have been incredibly successful, and this takes us all over the world. Our droids have attracted a huge amount of interest from manufacturers who can see the positive social impact this innovation has on their production chains. This strong demand is a nice surprise that reinforces our vision of collaborative robotics in tomorrow's society.
In what way does your project revolutionise your category?
Our logistics droids assist people in their daily work. These droids are bona fide assistants to workers and technicians who use them to take some of the physical strain out of their tasks. They allow workers to focus on higher value-added tasks and thus increase business productivity, an essential aspect for Smart Business. Our droids can help to strengthen industry in France and to boost our country through the productivity gains they bring.
