Tidal energy is renewable, abundant and above all, predictable. Using it to generate electricity has been turned into reality by EDF and its partners off the coast off Paimpol-Bréhat. After a long series of mechanical and electrical tests carried out on a demonstrator, two tidal turbines were built, installed 35 metres below the sea and connected to the electricity grid. Reversible, they operate on both the ingoing and outgoing tides.
