At Colombiers in France’s Hérault department, some 30 engineers and technicians keep a 24/7 watch from their control room over the operation of wind and solar farms in Europe. The aim is to optimise the efficiency of the farms by taking corrective action remotely or sending in local technicians to swiftly carry out maintenance. The control centre’s work keeps the installations’ downtime to a minimum to generate a maximum of low-carbon electricity.
