The Bonilait Protéines plant in Poitou, France, produces powdered milk. The milk dehydration process requires both heat and steam – and that means using a large quantity of energy. To lighten the site’s energy bill, EDF designed a system to recover the heat from the plant’s cooling towers and deployed the largest solar thermal facility in France’s industrial sector.
630 solar captors fitted at the site
1,470 m2 of surface area covered by the captors
20,000 tonnes of CO2 avoided each year
