EDF environmental protection expenditure

Environmental protection expenditure is the additional identifiable expenditure aimed at preventing, reducing or repairing the potential or effective damage caused by the company’s activities. This definition is based on the recommendation issued by the Conseil national de la comptabilité (the French national accounting council) on 21 October 2003, which, in turn, is based on the European recommendation of 30 May 2001.

Environmental protection expenditure is distributed across the 11 budget areas of the Eurostat classification (the European Commission’s Directorate General for the Environment) and its allocation may vary widely from year to year.

In 2016, environmental protection expenditure declined, following the significant increase in 2015. The decline was partly offset by investments in waste management and wastewater management, as well as in biodiversity conservation.
