"Climate energy" meeting with Marion Guillou

Former President and CEO of INRA and former General Manager for Food, Marion Guillou is a recognised specialist in food safety issues.

As such, she works on the links between climate change and food: the impact of agricultural production and food transportation on GHG emissions and the consequences of increasingly numerous climatic variations on people’s food supply, as well as on migration flows. She also reflects on new food sharing methods and a new food system.

Subjects she chose to present at the end of June to major EDF customers and partners, in the context of the "Climate-Energy Meetings" organised by the Sustainable Development division.

"Climate energy" meeting with Gilles Boeuf

As part of the 2015 United Nations Climate Change Conference in Paris, EDF launched a series of conferences on climate change. These meetings provided an opportunity for external speakers of international stature to share their views on issues relating to climate change.

The guest speaker on 25 April was Gilles Boeuf, scientific adviser on the environment, biodiversity and the climate at the Ministry of the Environment, Energy and Sea.

He reminded his audience that biodiversity is disappearing as a result of pollution, overexploitation of resources (e.g. deforestation and overfishing) and the dispersal of plant and animal species. He explained that climate change is natural. What is not natural, however, is the speed at which it is changing. In his fascinating speech, the former President of the French National Museum of Natural History encouraged both EDF and other companies to develop a culture focused on environmental impact.

EDF inaugurated its "Energy climate meetings" in the EDF Foundation with Cynthia Rosenzweig. According to this climate specialist researcher at NASA, who works with the city of New-York, "cities are in the firing line and have a role to play in the management of water, in transport, energy and buildings, to adapt them and even reduce the effects of climate change. New York wants to reduce its CO2 emissions by 80% between now and 2050".uire ses émissions de CO2 de 80 % d’ici 2050 ».

With 6 months to go until the COP21, Jean Tirole gave a conference on Monday 29 June at the EDF Foundation. The Economics Nobel Prize winner said he was convinced that "a uniform carbon price, a system for monitoring CO2 emissions and clarified global governance can still change the situation". The heads of Areva and EDF, Philippe Varin and Jean-Bernard Lévy, were present.
