Fenotek has created Hi), the video doorbell connected, using Wi-Fi or 4G, to all smartphones in the home. Its remote surveillance, motion detection, remote opening and QR Code reading features mean you can control your front door wherever you may be. It allows you, for example, to check when a delivery person calls and give them instructions remotely, open the door to visitors via a QR Code when you are out, etc. Hi) therefore makes life easier and more comfortable for people with reduced mobility. It detects and immediately notifies you of any suspicious activity, allowing you to trigger the built-in alarm from your smartphone, or call for assistance provided by Fenotek. Keep a constant eye on your front door with Hi).

4 questions to Fenotek

Where did you get the idea for this startup?
The idea to create a smart video doorbell connected to smartphones in the home came about as a result of several observations. Bruno Davoine, President and founder of Fenotek, first noted the difficulty an elderly loved one had just to open the front door due to their age. He also wanted to be able to manage the delivery of his parcels while out. And so the idea of “Hi)” came about: a smart video doorbell that helps to prevent missed visits. The idea is to use your smartphone to receive visitors who call at your home. Hi) comes with a high-definition camera. It lets you see the visitor, talk to them and even open the door, whether you are at home or on the other side of the world.
Furthermore, on returning from a holiday, Bruno had the misfortune to discover his home had been burgled. As with 75% of such cases, the burglars had forced open the front door. He therefore decided to enhance Hi) with sensors and software capable of detecting suspicious movements in front of the front door, triggering an alarm in the event of an attempted break-in or recording what it sees.
Any recent good news?
After a highly successful crowdfunding campaign, Fenotek has succeeded in expanding its funding through institutional investors and business angels. At the start of the year, the company had raised 2.2 million euros from iSource Gestion (manager of the Angel Source high-tech mutual fund), Turenne Capital (manager of PACA Investissement, the co-investment fund created by the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur (PACA) region with financial support from Europe), CAAP Création (Crédit Agricole), Provence Business Angels (PBA), the IAD, the P-Factory regional accelerator and the BPI. This good news has allowed the company to become more dynamic and more confident, and let it continue its quest for excellence.
What is the most unexpected thing that your startup has made you do?
All members of the Fenotek team who attended the 2016 CES in Las Vegas had the opportunity to present Hi) to the Minister of the Economy, who has since become the President of the French Republic...
In what way does your project revolutionise your category ?
Hi) revolutionises the possibilities for receiving visitors and securing your home. We have reinvented a day-to-day object while incorporating the latest technologies adapted to mobility, the welcoming of visitors and security in the home, in particular through the generation and reading of virtual keys (QRcode), the integration of a 4G SIM card (autonomy with regard to Wi-Fi) and the iBeacon function, which is used to recognise family members.
If you look beyond its elegant design, what we have developed is a robust and reliable video doorbell designed to last 10 years on average. It is controlled by its application (which can be downloaded free of charge on IoS and Android), which is simple and offers a complete user experience. This means that as well as the possibility of enhancing its application with new features, and therefore new uses, Fenotek can also remotely upgrade the Hi) smart video doorbell in order to offer its users the latest features throughout the lifetime of the product.
Furthermore, the security functions make it one of a small number of burglary prevention and warning systems. We are also establishing partnerships with insurers that provide additional intervention and security services in the event of suspected risks.
Aware of the benefits of developing a coherent smart home ecosystem, Hi) is also designed to be compatible with other smart objects and to be incorporated into different platforms such as Work with Nest or IFTT.
