  • 4 questions to Energysquare

You can now charge your smartphone simply by placing it on a dedicated surface or an item of furniture equipped with this solution! Energysquare has developed a charging solution that makes use of electrical conduction and does not emit electromagnetic waves. This universal system is just as fast as wired chargers and also limits energy loss. Whether it's a smartphone or e-cigarette, all electronic devices can be recharged simultaneously and with zero risk using Energysquare.

The Team

Based on a combination of engineering and design, the company's skills can be just as easily applied to producing a microelectronic hardware product as they can an industrial design. To perfect their management and marketing skills, the founders followed a dual curriculum course at the National University of Singapore. Sales and marketing profiles should soon be added to the team.

4 questions to Energysquare

Where did you get the idea for this startup?
The idea came to us while we were still students, based on two observations: first, our phone batteries were always at 0% by the end of the day, with all the inconvenience that can cause; secondly, our phones spent a lot of time just lying around, on desks, bedside tables or in restaurants. We decided that this would be the ideal time to charge them. From that starting point, we began to develop technology to allow devices to be charged on whole surfaces, and not just at a single point.
Any recent good news?
We recently finished machining our plastic injection moulds and have seen them used to produce the first industrial parts for our product. It’s extremely satisfying to see our project taking shape after three years of R&D and prototyping.
What is the most unexpected thing that your startup has made you do?
Participating in NUMA, we had the opportunity to meet the Queen of the Netherlands and show her our project and our prototypes. She was keen on the idea of putting an end to the clutter created by her children's charger cables.
In what way does your project revolutionise your category?
All of us have an ever-growing number of devices that need to be recharged frequently but access to energy has remained unchanged for decades: in 2017, these devices still need to be charged using a cable. Energysquare is revolutionising access to energy by offering a universal charging platform for all electronic devices.
