Whether you have hearing difficulties or not, it is often hard to have a conversation in a noisy environment. There are many places where background noise affects hearing - restaurants, bars, public transport, schools, open spaces, industrial sites, etc.
The LIZN ultra-discreet earphones improve communication. Thanks to their directional amplification technology, you can ignore background noise to better hear what the person in front of you is saying or simply to concentrate and relax anywhere.
The members of this team are specialised in audiology, acoustics and electronics, and also in the key areas that will enable this hearing technology to be heard (marketing, customer analysis, public relations, finance and international sales).
4 questions to LIZN
Where did you get the idea for this startup?
Over one sixth of the world’s population needs occasional hearing enhancement and the only solution today is a set of medical hearing aid that costs more than a flat screen television. The need for a smart, discreet, consumer-oriented and affordable solution is obvious. We [founders of LIZN] came up with a basic idea years ago and worked on various solutions. To develop LIZN Hearpieces, we did not rely on the idea itself but on a technological opportunity to implement a comprehensive concept that combines technology, industrial desgins, and many other fields. LIZN Hearpieces started with a breakthrough in battery technology. We found out that we could use components from the mobile phone industry which presents three main benefits: the cost, the sound quality and many suppliers all over the world for our components.
Any recent good news?
Within the last few months, we have been contacted by several North American retail chains, which together have more than 10,000 stores. They want to sell LIZN Hearpieces, and ask for a delivery rather today than tomorrow. The great enthusiasm from retail chains - that have direct access to millions of customers - has accelerated our development process, so we are looking forward to lauching our product in North America in the course of 2018.
What is the most unexpected thing that your startup has made you do?
We succeeded in persuading one of the most recognized Danish jazz musicians and composers Mads Mathias to write a piece of music so we could use it in our commercials. The song "I'm All Ears" has later been nominated on The USA Songwriting Competition as the Best Jazz Melody of the Year. It became an integral part of LIZN's brand and communication, where we remind how important face-to-face communication is important – contrasting with Facebook... The original recording of I’m All Ears can be heard on YouTube.
In what way does your project revolutionise your category?
The concept is based on a cross-disciplinary knowledge such as audiology or Bluetooth technology but also on a wide range of other medical and technological skills. We actually succeeded in building a product that is both elegantly designed and one of the smallest and most discreet earphone on the market. For multiple reasons it can change people’s life and help them to improve their social relationships by understanding others better. The use is simple and smart so anyone can wear them whether it is at work or in the private circle. One of the perks is that we can promote and sell it through well-known consumer channels worldwide and eventually the consumers will be able to find it in consumer electronic, health and online stores – and eventually also supermarkets. Thanks to the use of mobile phone components and high quality and low cost manufacturing LIZN Hearpieces are at least 80% cheaper than hearing aids.
