The EDF Pulse Awards return for their tenth edition, celebrating and supporting those who are shaping a low-carbon future through innovative solutions that drive progress towards carbon neutrality. It’s a prime opportunity for startups to gain visibility with the EDF Group—and potentially become partners. Yann Coïc, Head of EDF Pulse Ventures, shares his insights on the startup ecosystem.

Could you explain what the EDF Pulse Awards are?

The EDF Pulse Awards have existed since 2014. Their aim is to support and highlight those who are shaping a low-carbon future through innovative solutions that promote carbon neutrality.

They identify, assess and reward projects originating within the Group as well as external start-ups, all competing in shared categories regardless of their origin.

Which startups can apply?

All startups, whether French or international, can apply as long as their solution corresponds to one of the following five categories, which are central to the EDF Group's challenges:

  • Improving prevention measures in the field of health and safety
  • Accelerating and developing electrification
  • Managing and promoting flexibility
  • Improving operational efficiency
  • Strengthening the environmental adaptability of our activities

What is there to gain?

In addition to the €15,000 prize money, winners will receive tailored support from the EDF Pulse Connect teams to explore all possible synergies with the EDF Group (testing technology in our laboratories, strengthening the business model, connecting with end users, etc.).

The winners will also join the EDF Pulse Awards Alumni network, which offers events, meetings and networking opportunities.

What is the connection between EDF Pulse Ventures and the EDF Pulse Awards?

At first glance, there is none: winning an EDF Pulse Award does not guarantee that EDF Pulse Ventures will invest in the startup, or even that it will be reviewed by our teams. However, as a corporate venture, we are always on the lookout for the most innovative startups that could have synergies with the Group.

In this context, we will be paying close attention to the startups that apply for the EDF Pulse Awards, especially if they work in one of our priority investment areas.

What type of startups are you interested in?

We invest an average of €2 million in Series A startups. Our primary investment criterion is synergy with the EDF Group. Next come strategic alignment and, of course, return on investment. If a startup applies for the EDF Pulse Awards, meets all these criteria and is looking for a financial and strategic partner, EDF Pulse Ventures may contact it to strengthen our ties.

You have until 15 December to apply for the EDF Pulse Awards!
