EDF Group's raison d'être

EDF commits to achieving carbon neutrality before 2050, by pursuing or implementing three types of action: reach net zero, or almost zero, direct CO 2 emissions, reduce our indirect CO 2 emissions and offset residual emissions with negative emission projects... Reduce indirect CO2 emissions... That is why, at beginning of 2020, we chose to reinforce our climate commitments and including, for the first time, the commitment to reduce our indirect CO 2 emissions.

EDF, Meridiam and SIFCA sign with Proparco and EAIF the financing agreements for the largest biomass plant in West Africa | EDF FR

Construction of the biomass plant is scheduled to begin in September 2021 and is expected to be commissioned in 2024 . This plant will contribute to Côte d" Ivoire" s ambition to achieve 42 % of its energy mix from renewable energy sources by 2030 . It will contribute to reducing the country's greenhouse gas emissions by 4 5 million tonnes of CO2*** over the duration of the concession (25 years after commissioning).

EDF, Meridiam and Biokala have signed a concession contract with the Côte d'Ivoire Government for the largest biomass power plant in West Africa | EDF FR

This project falls within the framework of the Côte d' Ivoire National Renewable Energy Action Plan for 2014- 2030, with the aim of achieving a 42 %- share of renewable energies in the energy mix by the year 2030 . The purpose of this project is to support the Côte d' Ivoire agro-industrial sector and contribute to the aims set by the country at the time of the COP21 . Throughout the duration of the concession contract, this biomass power plant will enable the Côte d' Ivoire to reduce its carbon dioxide emissions by more than 4 5 million tonnes.

EDF submits to the Indian nuclear operator NPCIL the French binding techno-commercial offer to build six EPRs at the Jaitapur site | EDF FR

The socio-economic benefits of the project for India would be significant, with the creation of around 25 000 local jobs during the construction phase for a pair of EPR units, not to mention tens of thousands of indirect and induced jobs... The Jaitapur Nuclear Power Plant project is a cornerstone of the bilateral cooperation between France and India: with an installed capacity of 9 6 GWe, the plant would be the most powerful in the world; it would generate up to 75 TWh per year and cover the annual consumption of 70 million Indian households while avoiding the emission of 80 million tons of CO 2 per year*.

EDF renewable energy : smart solutions around the world | EDF Group

EDF also took an indirect stake in in 2020 . The company has been selling, setting up and maintaining solar kits for rural households in Kenya for several years... With an installed capacity of 146 MWp, it is capable of supplying 191 000 Chilean homes with electricity annually and avoiding 380 000 tonnes of CO 2 emissions into the atmosphere.
