EDF is present in Morocco in the fields
of energy generation, rural electrification and engineering
services.
In the field of generation, EDF built and is operating since
2000 a wind farm with a total capacity of more than 50 MW
in the region of Tétouan. EDF holds 84.5% of the share
capital of CED (Compagnie éolienne du Détroit),
the owner and operator of this wind farm.
In rural electrification, EDF is taking part in a solar electrification
programme through its joint affiliate with Total, Temasol
(Total EDF Maroc Solaire). The aim is to supply power to 53,000
households, thereby providing about 400,000 inhabitants with
access to electricity. It is the largest photovoltaic energy
project in Morocco and one of the biggest projects of this
type in the world.
In the field of engineering services, EDF has been selling
such services for a long time to Office national de l’électricité
du Maroc (ONE), and has forged a long-lasting partnership
with the 11 distribution companies in Morocco. One salient
example is EDF’s active collaboration in the turnkey
delivery of a pumped storage power station at Afourer, 300
km south of Casablanca.
Finally, the EDF Group, via CITELUM (Dalkia), a company specialised
in the management of traffic and public lighting, and the
illumination of monuments, has carried out with ONE the illumination
of the architectural heritage site of Essaouira and the Roman
city of Volubilis. CITELUM Maroc, a local affiliate, has recently
invested in the multivision "Sound and Light" project
of the Ménara Basin in Marrakech.
